Dirty Town DinTowncriers take displeasing forms,  "Hear ye! Hear ye!", their voices hoarse.  Bells, coats and hats are replaced  By an altogether newer disguise;  Sequins and skin - too much skin.   
They wear it to keep their secrets in,  Fog other the truth like condensation,  String stories together like macramé.  I'm a veteran when it comes to this:  Mocking, yet seeing in them my reflection.   
In this town, no love nor affection.  The women have eyes that give no detection  Of love, as they discuss body clocks.  The men, meanwhile, shout words  I don't wish to hear, Dirty Town Din

Love SongI threaded this together last night,  When the evening air was perfumed  With the age-old smell of ale.  Girls in two-piece swimsuits  Tossed their daffodil-yellow hair  For the city lights to see.   
Lit offices loomed over me,  As people sang songs I knew,  But could not begin to join in with.  My throat was lodged, barricaded,  With the sticky-honey single-word  Of your first name.

Poetry course here I come

I found out yesterday that I have been accepted on the Poetry course for next year :D Hopefully this means I'll be a bit more quick in actually putting poems up on here. Sorry I've been abandoning dA, it's just I have so much work to do and when I'm not working I'm catching up on sleep or seeing friends.

I also have a dilemma for a fancy dress party. On the 4th July my friend is having a famous Americans themed birthday :giggle: and I need a costume idea that
a) Will make me look somewhat good. I'm not vain but I won't enjoy myself if I'm constantly worrying that I look silly/fat etc.
b) Will be recognisable at least a bit. 'What are you meant to be?' isn't a great question to hear at a fancy dress party.
c) Not too warm/involving sunglasses as we're off to a club.
d) Not Marilyn Monroe. I LOVE her but I have a feeling there will be about five Monroes.

Help me out guys.

I'm an English/History double major, with a Studio Art Minor and a Distinction in Leadership Studies. It may be a mouthful, and people may scorn me for "trying to kill myself with school" but the truth is....I just LOVE to learn. :bounce: Nobody really understands that, and I find it a sad thing that at a liberal arts college, those who actively pursue as much knowledge as possible are ostricized. :sadangel:

Oh I know! People seem to react to my degree choice in a very similar 'Well what can you do with THAT?!' In fact, this came from a guy who's going to be an accountant!!! At least I'm doing something fun, that I love, rather than taking the safe option. Rrr.
